The house of nobility with its 1700 coppar plates are the center of Swedish heraldry. Open for visitors,
In 1626, the house of nobility was founded. The ”house” was more of a corporation for the nobility when the Swedish Parliament was divided into four estates.
If a family was given a letter of nobility they had the right to be introduced to the House of nobility. When so, their coat of arms was painted on a copper plats and hanged on the wall. The coat of arms is arranged in numerical order according to the year of introduction.
Altogether 2 330 families where introduced, 1700 of them have had their Coat of Arms painted.
For heraldist, the great hall is one of the most exciting places on earth (if you’re not a heraldist, it’s still a beautiful room).
