Ibland slipper man kokböcker. Ibland ges det ur riktigt bra böcker. Som ”The herald in late medieval Europe”.

Boken är en halv-akademisk antologi med bidrag från Jackson w. Armstrong, Adrian Ailes, Katie Stevenson, Michael Jones, Franck Viltart, Henri Simmoneau, Wim van Anrooij, Bogdan Wojciech Brzustowicz, Alexia Grosjean och Laura Cirri.

Alla författare som medverkar är kunniga historiker och jag känner att det här är en bok som jag skulle ha haft när jag gjorde min uppsats på temat för tjugo år sedan. Då fanns det nästan ingen litteratur alls på området, och definitivt ingen som gjorde en samlande översikt över härolder i hela Europa.

Ska jag säga något negativt är det att boken fortfarande följer den klassiska brittiska indelningen av häroldernas uppgifter och inte riktigt har gjort upp med äldre historikers/heraldikers syn på ämnet. Och att de möjligen grottar ner sig en aning för mycket i ex Florens.
